Stage I – Analysis

The analysis phase is to discover the ocean at the inspiring and amazing locations and facilities. Students will truly be immersed in the world of ocean science and activities including fisheries management, witnessing what drives the ocean food chain and participating in Great Barrier Reef projects. Stage one grows teamwork, communication and their sense of adventure in an exciting fast-paced environment.

Stage II – Synthesis

Stage two introduces the students to the ocean economy and uncovers where the future lies. Participating in the CASE exclusive program, OceanU, students will team up and put what they have learnt into a real life scenario. OceanU allows students to gain multi-faceted knowledge, cutting across multiple disciplines outside the student’s normal realm of learning.

Stage III – Thesis

At CASE ChallengeX Competition, modeled on the global X-Prize that has led to many technological advancements, the students compete in an ocean development project. Students work as a team under set guideline and timelines to professionally present to a panel of judges. The CASE ChallengeX Competition fosters critical thinking and problem solving, effective oral communication, and project management skills in a highly competitive environment.

Amazing Locations

A ‘classroom’ like no other awaits all CASE Senior Ocean School participants. Students will visit scenic Magnetic Island, jump into the waters of the Great Barrier Reef, one of the 7 natural wonders of the world and discover the mysteries of the oldest rainforest in the world. Sydney offers students the vibrant metropolitan lifestyle with pristine beaches, Townsville is the marine industry hub and Cairns is a seaside escape with the Coral Sea at their feet. A visit to the University of Sydney and James Cook University offers an insight into their future study possibilities.

Cultural Experience

Witnessing and experiencing how different cultures uniquely express themselves, encourages students to see things from different perspectives. In addition to participating in modern Australian lifestyle activities such as beach volleyball and Australian BBQ, students will also learn from the world’s oldest living civilization, the Australian Indigenous Aboriginal people. This develops a more culturally aware individual and prepares students for life in the 21st century.

Inspirational Speakers

An unforgettable experience awaits all CASE Senior Ocean School students. During personalised presentations and special events, students hear directly from guest speakers including ocean researchers, conservationists, educators, entrepreneurial minds and explorers.

mPOWER Personal Development

Throughout the expedition students engage in mPOWER modules aimed to provide principles and guidance for their future endeavours. Students will learn the growth mindset, a concept developed by Prof. Carol Dweck of Stanford University.

Students will learn to:

  • Embrace challenges
  • Believe talent and ability can be developed
